editions vaché There is an art to 'Ignoring a piece of music' - in an artful way- this work drifts in and out of one's consciousness as it wafts through a space- At times your thoughts are focused on a passage, other times it is a fragrance drifting by. We find that the finest music works this way, and this is a fine addition to the great Slaapwel label....ss

John Narusis I was unimpressed at first, and almost deleted it from my wishlist, but as it played, its spell took over me, and I was hooked. I could go for an extended version. Or better yet, an app that would generate this music continuously. Favorite track: Periphery I.

about

Periphery consists of 4 realizations of the same score, performed with flute, cello, piano and tones. It takes a simple tune Clay heard at his grandparents’ church as a child and unravels it, leaving the remnants to drift among each other and the original to loom as a kind of vague feeling at the edge of the senses. In other words: a perfect companion to fall asleep with.

The album was recorded over the course of a few months in 2015, late at night at a small church in a quiet neighbourhood of San Francisco. Although technically a series of instrumental trios (flute, cello and piano), the 3 musicians played in the space on different nights, making each of the recorded versions in itself a composite of three different performances.
